Forest Protection Limited

Forest Protection Limited (FPL) was formed in 1952 as a joint government-industry effort to fight the spruce budworm – then threatening to destroy much of New Brunswick’s fir-spruce forest.

A non-profit company, today most of its shares are held by the Province of New Brunswick and the remainder by New Brunswick forest companies.

FPL owns and operates a number of aircraft and hires others when necessary. The company conducts aerial fire protection, insect control and herbicide programs, as well as providing aircraft for aerial surveys. Although mainly operating in New Brunswick, FPL can and has conducted operations in other jurisdictions.

A significant part of its budget is devoted to research and development in forest protection methods.
