The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre has shared the story of bushplanes and forest fire control for over 33 years. We have 24 aircraft in our collections, a Children’s Educational Centre and Wildfires, our 3D fire fighting adventure film. The CBHC prides itself on continuously being rated Sault Ste. Marie’s #1 Attraction, attracting tens of thousands of visitors annually. Our displays are highly interactive, and guests can climb into many of our aircraft.

Job Description
The Event Assistant is considered a supervisory role and works directly with the Event & Marketing Manager. This role oversees the setup and take down of events, manages events in progress and over time will be trained in the selling, touring and planning of client events (weddings, meetings, training sessions, socials, etc.). This is a part-to-full time position, requiring a gregarious and outgoing personality, strong attention to detail and scheduling flexibility.

Duties Include

  • Respond to guest inquiries during events.
  • Assist the Marketing and Events Manager with client meetings, event planning and tours.
  • Oversee the management of events when in progress, including responding to guest needs, finding solutions to problems, ensuring the safety and security of guests and coordinating other CBHC staff and security.
  • Coordinate Event set-up according to the event floor plan, including arranging tables, chairs, stage, etc.
  • Daily cleaning and upkeep of the Event Facilities, including, but not limited to, garbage removal, washroom cleaning, laundering linens, cleaning dishes, cleaning the kitchen and mopping and sweeping.
  • Follow all event and CBHC policies and procedures, including ensuring others comply as well.
  • Bartend, if required.
  • Complete daily cash deposit.


  • Ability to direct and oversee other team members to ensure a seamless event.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with a history of customer service excellence.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong judgement, decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Previous experience bartending or serving, or co-ordinating large events.
  • Experience processing cash and debit/credit transactions.
  • Minimum high school education
  • Smart Serve certificate
  • Flexible availability including weekends and evenings.

Working Conditions:

  • Part- to full-time permanent position, mostly weekends, with shifts ending as late as 2am. Send resume to Edie Suriano at
