A School Tour at the Bushplane Museum is fun and educational. Students enjoy hands-on experiential learning that meets the needs of the teacher and, if desired, the curriculum. Let us bring the theory of flight to life or inspire your budding aviators!
Associated lessons are encouraged before and after a field trip. Many students may not have been to a museum before, and it is helpful to establish the rules of a museum while getting them excited to come and see everything we have to offer.
Tour + hour of educational programming The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre Education Team can program curriculum-based learning for grades K-8. Students will receive a tour incorporating components of the Ontario Curriculum for the appropriate grade level and will explore concepts of history, science, math, engineering and technology through experimentation, art and other hands-on activities. Curriculum-based School Tours include a 45-minute guided tour, a viewing of Wildfires and an hour of curriculum-based programming. We are happy to organize space for a nutrition break. See grade-specific curriculum programming.
This guided experience includes an age-appropriate 30-minute guided tour of bushplane history and development, a private viewing of Wildfires, and as much free time to explore as you like. This tour is not curriculum-based.
The Grade Six Theory of Flight program is the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre’s flagship educational school program. Teachers select from an A La Carte Lesson Plan Menu, giving them control over which topics are discussed during the Bushplane Field Trip. If you’re uncertain how to teach this unit, we can provide instruction that covers all elements of the curriculum as well as before- and after-visit activities and lessons to use in the classroom.
All Grade 6 Theory of Flight programs includes a guided tour of the museum’s bushplane exhibits, animating the history of bushplanes in the North while exploring the development of aircraft design from the early 20th century to the present day. Each student is provided with a take-home workbook and a balsa wood plane kit. See the Grade Six Theory of Flight A La Carte Lesson Plan Menu.
Bring your class to the Bushplane Museum to discover the history and development of bushplanes and forest fire management in the North. This tour is entirely self-guided and provides admission to the museum only. Space for nutrition breaks and visits to Entomica are not included.
